Bio: I am a professor at Meredith College in Raleigh, NC. I am also a political analyst for local, regional, and national news media outlets on political campaigns, political leadership, and public policy. My current research focuses on barriers to women in appointed and elected offices. Currently I am conducting a national study of women in state-level appointed offices and the impact of gender equity laws on their appointment. I also author The Status of Women in North Carolina Politics, a comprehensive study of women voters, candidates, and public officials--appointed and elected--in North Carolina. I also direct the Meredith Poll, a statewide survey of political attitudes.
